The half-shaft is a component of the transmission, that is, that set of mechanisms which allow the power developed by a car's engine to be transmitted to the driving wheels.
In most vehicles, traction occurs on just one axle (only front or only rear) and these vehicles are defined as 2-wheel drive.
There are also vehicles where the traction is distributed over both axles, front and rear, known as 4-wheel drive.
For front- or rear-wheel drive vehicles there are two axle shafts, one for the right side (passenger side) which is usually longer and one for the left side (driver's side) which is shorter, joined by the differential which prevents one of the two wheels from slipping on a curve due to the difference in path and rotation speed.
R.I.P.A.S. offers a complete replacement service for the entire half-shaft: overhaul and repair of the gearbox side, replacement of the wheel side joint and straightening of the pole after an accident.
You can also carry out a partial repair regeneration service by repairing only the part of the axle shaft that is no longer functioning (only wheel-side joint or only gearbox-side joint).
